The Aromatherapy course is supplied and tutored by the Complementary Healing Association and is divided into workshops comprising, both theory and practical training, plus written assignments and several months of field training out of the workplace, Study will include the following subjects: -
ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY
Detailed study of the various systems of the body and how they function
(Home study)
First aid measures.
CHEMISTRY, PHARMACOLOGY
Composition of essential oils
Essential oils metabolism – toxicity, irritation, sensitization and
contra indications.
ESSENTIAL OIL STUDIES
Chemical and physical characteristics of essential oils – extraction, purity, storage, handling and blending.
Monographs of over forty essential oils, including medicinal properties and psycho-therapeutic uses.
History of essential oils.
CLINICAL AROMATHERAPY
Consultation and case history taking.
Methods of application, dosage and dilution.
Treatment progress, patient care and giving advice.
Aromatherapy treatments for: -
Skin disorders.
Joint and rheumatic disorders.
Respiratory problems.
Digestive disorders.
Female problems.
Urogenital disorders and other problems.
HOLISTIC AROMATHERAPY
A combination of essential oils and massage, incorporating holistic principles.
RELAXATION AND PSYCHO-AROMATHERAPY
Olfaction, its influences and implication for therapy.
Relaxation technique for patient and therapist.
SOFT TISSUE MASSAGE
The history and theory of massage, indications and contra-indications.
The various massage movements, their application, uses and effects.
Massage and the caring profession.
PRACTICE MANAGEMENT
Setting up in business – what you need to know, including hygiene, health and safety measures, insurance cover and associations.
Referrals and communication with general practitioners.
Ethics, Codes of Conduct etc.
COST OF THE COURSE
A deposit of £140 will be required in the first instance, to secure a place. The cost of the whole course is £405. If there is any problems it may be possible to pay in instalments. Please contact the secretary for details.
The cost will include all of the course content Manuals, paperwork etc. All oils, lotions and sundries used at the workshops. The Assessment Fee. The Diploma and Badge on qualification. Tea, coffee, herbal teas and biscuits are also provided. (In the event of any course not going ahead, all deposits will be refunded in full).
WORKSHOPS
Workshops will take place one Sunday a month
Please Note: All Massage is carried out on professional couches - Not on the floor. Students will both give and receive the treatments carried out to ensure maximum understanding of the processes involved. The course is designed in this instance, for smaller groups, to ensure maximum individual tuition throughout. Mature Students are very welcome.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
For the purposes of individual hygiene, please bring with you two old bath/beach towels for your own use. Please also bring with you a light lunch if required. Kitchen facilities are available for those wishing to heat up snacks etc if required, at no extra cost.
